Originally published via Modest Truth Mag on June 28, 2017. It’s summer, and summer is the season of travel. As people gear up for camping trips, exotic vacations, and everything in between, now is not the time to stay at home, moping about where you can’t go. Put on your walking shoes, pack your bag, book your flight, and get ready to see the world! These are the apps that will get you there, or help you find your way back. 1. Travel List-$1.99 Never forget your toothbrush again! Welcome to Travel List, the ultimate packing checklist. Enjoy a curated list of pre-planned necessities, or add your own with the push of a button. Plan your trip with the handy calendar, and even save more than one list so you can plan ahead. The interface is clean and easy to use, so you’ll never have to worry about remembering everything. 2. Kayak-Free Book your flight and save some money in the process. Kayak compares all of the best travel sites to find you the flight you want at a price you can afford. This app works best if you plan a bit ahead, so get started on your travel daydream and find your next destination with Kayak. 3. Lonely Planet Guides-Free See the city in a new light by finding tourist attractions or off-the-beaten path adventures with Lonely Planet Guides. Whether you’re in a new locale or exploring your hometown, Lonely Planet leads the way with in-depth location reviews and sights to see. Check out the currency conversion rate and even learn the local language from the app. This app is great for traveling abroad or locally, and you can even download the guidebooks for offline use. 4. Roadtrippers-Free If you want to see more of the United States, make sure to get your hands on RoadTrippers. This app will guide you through the best road trips the US has to offer. Plan your trip from day to day, and find attractions that interest you. Ghosts? Got ‘em. High end dining? That, too! Find exactly what you want to find and then figure out how to get there, with the best road trip app out there now. 5. AirBNB-Free You’ve gone somewhere new and exciting, but where are you going to stay? A personal favorite is AirBNB. Live like a local, with a local, and all within budget. Find somewhere unique to stay, whether that’s a shared hostel or an apartment all to yourself. Compare different residences to stay exactly where you want for a price that won’t break the bank. 6. Geocaching-Free (with option for a premium membership) You want to travel but can’t leave your town? Try Geocaching! It’s a fun way to explore your own neck of the woods and find fun things that people leave behind. The name of the game is to find the cache (usually a small box), put one item in, and take one out. Leave a small toy or sticker and take something that speaks to you. Then put everything back for someone else to find. This is a good way to discover places you might not otherwise, and can quickly become an exploration addiction.
